When we were kids, we were taught to rinse, lather, condition- in that order. And it stuck. It's second nature to us, only second to brushing our teeth in the morning. Doing anything different would feel like reading the end of a good book before chapter one, or eating dessert before the salad. (Which, by the way, we don't object to.)
But have we been going about our shower regimen wrong the entire time?
In all honesty, it's a definite possibility. Shampooing before we condition is an unnecessary tradition we can attribute mostly to media hype.
Reversing the way you wash is specifically beneficial for babes who have thick or course hair, as well as those with oil-prone tresses and who use a lot of product that could be stuck to the hair follicle. But studies show that babes of all hair types are reaping the benefits of this reverse washing craze- especially those with fine or thin blonde hair.
(BLNDN babes, rejoice!)
According to hair care artistic director Nina Dimachki, "Conditioning before you shampoo is great for adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down. It also promotes a longer lasting blow dry and primes the hair before cleansing- allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly."
Lucy Partington, Beauty Assistant at Cosmopolitan, admits she's been pleasantly surprised after picking up the trend.
"At first, I didn't think my hair felt much different, but I did find it a lot easier to get a brush through before drying. After it was dry, I noticed it looked less frizzy than usual and my straighteners glided through my hair better than they normally do too. This morning my hair feels smoother, looks shinier and actually, it seems to have a bit more movement."
Wanna try it out for yourself? Condition first with NOURISH YOU, our lightweight conditioner. Massage gently into scalp through ends. No need to leave it in, just pump, lather, (bonus points if you bring your wide-tooth comb into the shower with you), and rinse thoroughly. Follow with your choice of BLNDN Shampoos such as QUENCH YOU or BRIGHTEN YOU.
Will you be picking up your conditioner first? We'd love to hear!
